I know it’s been extra cold outside this week, so that’s more reason to get productive indoors. With the Media Industry slowing down for the festive season, it’s a good time to squeeze in some final opportunities before the end of 2024.
So here’s your run down of all those opportunities to help kickstart your career in media and entertainment.

Winter School Workshops
What You’ll Be Doing:
💡 Come to our Colleges for creative activities and pre-university advice:
make work across art, design, fashion, communication and performing arts
experiment with a variety of traditional and innovative equipment or techniques
get honest advice from our students and graduates; find out about their creative journeys
discover how different each of our College campuses are and what they could offer you.
Activities are free to attend, and materials and refreshments are provided.

LIVE SPORTS EVENT: BTS at UCI TRACK CYCLING
Last year, six students from Years 12 and 13 had the amazing opportunity to go behind the scenes of a live sports outside broadcast at the UCI Track Champions League.
And this year that could be you! The UCI Track Champions League takes place all around Europe and they are looking for a handful of Global Students to go Behind The Scenes.
The 2023 competition saw British star-rider Katie Archibald, winner of 2 Olympic golds and 5 world championships, come out on top of the Women's Endurance competition. Will she be able to repeat the feat in 2024?
What You’ll Be Doing:
💡 Observing behind the scenes of a major sporting event, from equipment to communication. You will get to experience the UCI Track Championships.

WORK EXPERIENCE OPPORTUNITY: Gain Experience with SPID Theatre!
Looking to gain hands-on experience in the arts, social media, digital communication, and more? Join SPID Theatre for a couple of weeks and develop your skills while supporting an organization that creates art and theatre advocating housing justice.
What You’ll Be Doing:
🎭 Craft Engaging Social Media Content
Help create and share content that promotes the theatre’s work and vision.
🎬 Support the Artistic Director
Attend meetings, shadow the Artistic Director, and gain insight into leadership and creative direction.

Step into the world of Broadcast and Post-production as a Post-Production Technical Operator Apprentice with Sky! Based in Osterley, you’ll work hands-on with the Edit Operations team, learning essential workflows and techniques across Sky’s diverse Content Creation teams—including Entertainment, News, Drama, and Sports. You’ll gain technical knowledge, support Sky’s creative departments, and build connections in a dynamic, supportive environment.
What You’ll Be Doing:
🎬 Post-Production Support
Assist with post-production tasks, manage incoming media, and prepare sequences for Audio turnovers.
📈 Develop Workflow Expertise
Get to know Sky’s processes inside-out and help resolve logistical and technical challenges.
🔧 Technical Collaboration
Work closely with Editing, Grading, and Audio Dubbing to refine your skills.
Apprenticeship Qualification:
This role includes 80% on-the-job training at Sky and 20% off-the-job learning with London South Bank University. You’ll learn best practices in media ingest, storage, and secure digital dispatch. Upon completion, you’ll receive a nationally recognized qualification and will be assessed for operational competence.

Qualifications Required:

No prior experience required—just a passion for post-production and a willingness to learn! Familiarity with editing tools like Avid, Da Vinci Resolve, or Adobe Premiere Pro is a bonus. Bring a strong work ethic, effective communication, and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
